About Dr. Berry
Dr. Philip Berry earned his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and Microbiology from the University of Central Florida in Orlando. During his time there, he also worked as a tutor and learning skills instructor, refining his teaching abilities.
Subsequently, Dr. Berry relocated to Tampa to pursue his medical education at the University of South Florida. It was during his studies here that he developed a keen interest in endocrinology. His fascination stemmed from the intricate signaling mechanisms of hormones to cells, the holistic impact of the endocrine system on the body, and the opportunity to build enduring patient relationships due to the chronic nature of endocrine conditions. Additionally, he was drawn to the role of lifestyle factors in endocrinology, emphasizing the importance of education and mentorship in patient care.
Following medical school, Dr. Berry dedicated six years to his residency and fellowship training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, focusing on Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. This period included three years of research in Endocrinology, specifically studying Growth Hormone and Prolactin signaling.
Since completing his training in 2014, Dr. Berry has worked as an Assistant Professor of Endocrinology at Emory University as well as an employed clinical endocrinologist in Alpharetta, Georgia. Over a decade in practice he has witnessed how insurance companies have increasingly interfered with patient care by reducing the amount of time patients have with physicians and creating increasingly complex prior authorization processes to deny patients needed medications. In response to insurance interference, Dr. Berry has learned now to more effectively counter insurance denials for medication or even apply directly to pharmaceutical companies to obtain needed medication, which often save patients hundreds if not thousands of dollars a year.
Additionally, he came to the conclusion that the insurance model makes it impossible to focus on nutrition and lifestyle factors, which research has shown is critically important to long term quality of life and longevity. Dr. Berry has spent the past decade developing a more sophisticated and personalized method of nutrition for patients, which in his opinion is the single most important lifestyle factor that predicts long-term health and wellness. His passion is in teaching about nutrition in a nonjudgmental and supportive way, as he believes it can help the body heal, fortify for the future, and reduce dependence on medication. It is his mission to merge the best parts of evidence-based medicine with the most recent advances in nutrition.
